Need Super Bowl Tickets? Go See Lombardi on Broadway

You wouldn’t think that a play based on a legendary football coach would be successful. But Lombardi, currently playing on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theater is bucking those odds.

Based on the life of Green Bay Packer coach Vince Lombardi, the play has been getting rave reviews from critics and theater-goers alike. It’s based on the best-selling biography When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Maraniss. Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) and Judith Light (Who’s the Boss, Law & Order: SVU) star.

This week being 2011 Super Bowl week, and since Green Bay is one of the two teams playing, Lombardi has gone Bowl-crazy for those who happen to be in New York City.

Arrive early to the show February 1 through 6 and you can have your picture taken with the 1986 Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy. For the performances on February 1, 3 and 4, New York Giants players Carl Banks, Brad Benson and Jim Burt will be in the lobby for meet-and-greets.

Not only that, but ticket holders to the performances on February 1, 2 and 3, can enter their name at the merchandise booth to win a pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLV, which will be held February 6 in Dallas, TX. Airfare, hotel and everything else is up to you, but these tickets are such a hot commodity, it’s definitely worth entering. And even if you don’t win, ticket holders for these three nights can also win other prizes ranging from NFL and Lombardi merchandise to gift cards and bar tabs.

Lombardi tickets range from $115 to $200 per seat and it is the perfect Broadway show for the sports fan (especially Packer Backers). Before the show, make sure you take enjoy what the Big Apple has to offer from its unique list of things to do from local street foods, fashion shops, to museums. After the show, you can head across the street to Emmett O’Lunney’s Irish pub for a nightcap.

Carnival 2011 – Sitges, Spain

Grab your feather boa and a pair of golden pumps! It’s Carnaval time!

Sitges Spain for 2011 Carnaval

Sitges Spain for 2011 Carnaval

Carnaval is the Spanish version of Mardi Gras. One of the most extravagant parties of the year, Carnaval brings out the wild side of locals and visitors alike. While you can find Carnaval celebrations all over Spain, some of the craziest parties are found on the Canary Islands and in Sitges.

Honestly, the Canary Islands are probably a better place to celebrate Carnaval because it’s  a heck of a lot warmer down there come February – March than it is in NE Spain. Still, at about 45 minutes away from Barcelona by train, Sitges is much easier for most people to get to for Carnaval mayhem.

Like Mardi Gras, people dress up in extravagant costumes for Carnaval, and the party goes for a week straight day and night. The nighttime is when things usually get really rockin’. Sitges is known for being popular with gay travelers, and you should expect a flamboyant gay contingent in Sitges Carnaval parades. That said, Carnival in Sitges is not exclusively gay by any means. All sorts of people go to Sitges to celebrate.

The Drunkest Cities in America

Everybody loves lists, both reading them and making them. They usually fall into two categories: the Best of something and the Worst of something.

Mmmm...Beer

I’m not sure where this one falls, but The Daily Beast recently ranked the Drunkest Cities in America. The list, according to the website, took a number of factors into account, including average drinks served per person, and number of residents who have had legal or medical issues resulting from alcoholic consumption.

Topping the list was Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I’m not surprised by this as I lived there for five years. Between the huge number of breweries and brewpubs, and the fact that many bars are packed from open to close, this is definitely a drinking town.

Second, was Fargo, North Dakota. You might wonder why, since it’s not a huge metro area, but according to one of my best friends (a resident of Fargo up to a year ago), there’s not much to do but work and drink there.

Here’s a quick listing of the Top Ten Drunkest Cities in America:

1] Milwaukee, WI
2] Fargo, ND
3] San Francisco, CA
4] Austin, TX
5] Reno, NV
6] Burlington, VT
7] Omaha, NE
8] Boston, MA
9] Anchorage, AK
10] San Diego, CA

If you want to see the full list of cities, head on over to The Daily Beast.

Did your city make the list? Do you think it should have? Let me know. I love lists.
