After catching a flick at one of my favorite original version theaters, Renoir, my friend and I felt like a nightcap. Usually, we head to one of the many tapas bars right near Renoir, but on that evening we ventured into Barcelona‘s El Raval neighborhood looking for something new to try.
It was easy to find a new bar in El Raval, where nightlife is flourishing and fresh bars and restaurants open up all the time. El Bombon is not new, but it was new to me when we sat at the bar and ordered a couple of beers.
El Bombon also does mixed drinks, cocktails and basic wine. They have simple appetizers ranging from a cheese plate to chips and dip. Nothing special, but better than most small bars which serve nothing but beverages.
A one-room, intimate spot, customers sit at the tiny bar by the door or around itty-bitty tables clustered together along the walls and windows. On the Friday night I was there El Bombon was full save the seats at the bar, and the crowd was a mix of students and 20 to 30-somethings. Latin pop and rock played in the background, and the friendly waitresses gossiped in the kitchen doorway.
There’s nothing fancy about El Bombon but for an inexpensive drink with a friend after a movie, or to kick off at night out in El Raval, this mini bar hits the spot.
