Choices for teens when it comes to nighttime activities and entertainment is sorely lacking in many areas. In Northwest Florida, Fudpucker’s of Destin, a longtime eating and nightlife destination for Destin visitors and locals alike, hosts Teen Night every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights from 10am-1am through the summer. Starting May 31 and continuing until August 11, the outside deck at Fuckpucker’s will be host to a night of dancing and entertainment for teens 13-17.

Fudpucker's Destin Teen Night 2011
As would be expected, absolutely no alcohol or tobacco is allowed on the premises, and no person over 17 or under 13 will be admitted to the Teen Night events. Trained staff and numerous off-duty deputies are on-site to handle any situations that may arise and to keep the environment teen-centric. Parents are welcomed to stay for the duration of the events and watch over the outside deck while sitting inside Fudpucker’s restaurant.
A cover of $15 per person is charged upon entry, and sodas and water are free throughout the night.

As the Southernmost point of the continental United States, the tiny island of Key West tends to become party central, especially during holidays and Spring Break. While watching the sun set from the dock at Mallory Square is tops on most visitor’s lists, there’s another time honored tradition that is almost as popular: the Duval Pub Crawl.

Duval at Night in Key West
Duval is the main street in what is known as Old Town Key West, and it runs north to south across the island. Mallory Square anchors the north end of Duval and is the best spot to start your evening’s pub crawl. Grab a margarita or a cold beer, find a spot that faces the water and enjoy the sunset.
Once the sun dips below the horizon, head on over to the Hogs Breath Saloon (400 Front Street, with a Duval entrance). If you haven’t eaten yet, and you can find a place to sit, then this is a good place to grab a bite. After all, you won’t last long on the pub crawl if you drink on an empty stomach.
Exit onto Duval and head south. When you reach Sunset Lane, about a block or so down, you’ll spot two of the watering holes that writer Ernest Hemingway used to frequent.
At the intersection sits Sloppy Joe’s, one of the most popular places on the island. They usually feature a live band playing covers and a small bit of empty space in front of the stage that serves as a dance floor.
Look to your right and about a half-block down, you’ll see Captain Tony’s Saloon. It’s a tiny shack-like building, but there’s usually somebody entertaining the drinkers with a guitar.
Once you’ve hit up both of these bars, you have to pace yourself for the next 2-3 blocks.

Barcelona Beach Bars - Drink on the Sand This Summer
All along the beaches of Barcelona, from the crowded La Barceloneta to the open shores of the Forum, there are beach bars. These beach bars set up late April and come down in the fall serving the influx of visitors and sun worshipers who come in the summertime.
Some beach bars are better than others. Most are pricey, charging an extra euro or two because you’re on the sand. Beach bars are brilliant for having lunch during a full day at the beach, or as an evening hang-out when the sun sets behind Montjuic Mountain.

Barcelona Beach Bars Are Open All Day
It’s humid and hot in Barcelona in July and August, and having some drinks by the sea at a beach bar with the stars above and the seas breeze in your nose is a real treat. Here are a couple worth checking out.
BAMBU BEACH BAR:
A long ways from the center of the city, but this could be a good thing if you’re not into crowds. Bambu offers a dinner menu and cocktails in a beach bar surrounded by potted palms. On Fridays Bambu serves up special appetizers, and the truly lazy can order right from their beach hammock (limited hammocks available).

VAI MOANA:
This beach bar is a little closer to the center, a brisk ten minute walk from the Poble Nou Metro stop (or just walk along the beach…). Have a dinner of starters at Vai Moana followed by some of their potent cocktails. Located on Playa Bogatell, stay out late on the Mediterranean at Vai Moana, which stays open until 2am.

Carlos Kalmar leads the Grant Park Orchestra
The official kick off of summer activities means beaches and barbecues for many but for a Windy City girl like me, it means free concerts in Millennium Park. Not that there aren’t enough Chicago music festivals to fill any music fans calendar for every summer day but these concerts start at 6:30 PM, in the cool of the evening. Plus, they cover everything from classical and jazz to alternative and global. Here’s the details for the various Millennium Park concert series for summer 2011: Read More »
