Cozying up to a bar and getting your drink on is a tried and true after hours excursion but if you want a fresh take on an old standby, head to Chicago’s monthly sketching and sipping events.  Bring your own supplies and get ready to increase your creative skills at these adult art classes:

Drink and Draw (Spudnik Press, 1821 W. Hubbard, ste. 308)-Every first Tuesday of the month, this art studio offers free form drawing practice from 7-9:30PM.  A theme and drinks that pair with it are supplied but you’re encouraged to let your mind wander. Clusters of regulars often hang around the studio’s four tables and couch, drawing, listening to the background music and of course, drinking. $5 suggested donation.

Doodleganza(MCA, 220 E. Chicago Ave.)-On the first Tuesday of every month, from 6-8PM, the Museum of Contemporary Art supplies this laid-back drawing affair helmed by a different artist each month. Paper and supplies are provided as well as out-of-the-box suggestions from the artists.  Beer is for sale at the bar but the event is free.

Atomic Sketch (Evil Olive, 1551 W. Division)- On the last Thursday of the month, the Evil Olive nightclub transforms into a DIY art gallery, where a panel of artists create on the spot art works and hang them around the club, to be sold for less than $50. Even if you aren’t a professional artist, you can bring your supplies and join in the creativity or just watch and drink. Free.
