Sure, we go out to bars, have some drinks and enjoy a night out with friends. But have you ever wondered about the business side of it all? What it takes to run a bar or nightclub?
If so, then you’ll want to check out a new series on the Spike cable network called “Bar Rescue.”
The premise of the show centers around taking bars that are failing and trying to turn them around into money-making establishments. The magician that hopes to enact these changes is Jon Taffer, a 30-year industry veteran who is also president of the Nightclub & Bar Media Group.
Aiding Taffer in rebuilding these establishments are his wife Nicole, who operates undercover to help him diagnose each bar’s problems, along with a rotating group of experts, including famed restauranteur Josh Capon, celebrity chef Brian Hill, Diageo Master of Whisky Peter O’Connor and Diageo mixologist Elayne Duke.
Turning traditional Irish pubs, biker hangouts and karaoke bars into billiards clubs, surf barbeque restaurants and whiskey taverns is just a sampling of the transformations that take place under Taffer’s supervision.
Set for a ten-episode first season, “Bar Rescue” has already filmed at the following bars:
- The Chicken Bone in Framingham, MA
- Canyon Inn in Yorba Linda, CA
- Champs in Burbank, CA
- Downey’s Irish Pub & Restaurant in Philadelphia, PA
- Swanky Bubbles (love that name!) in Philadelphia, PA
The first episode is set to premiere on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at 10pm (ET) on Spike TV.
With new nightclubs and bars opening all the time, I think this show centering on revitalizing already established ones could be interesting to watch.
Have you ever had a favorite bar or nightclub suddenly get overhauled into something else?
